GENERAL NOTE: Most books dealing with women's studies are located in the lower level of the Library in the call number area of HQ1075-2030. Items with call numbers beginning with Z are bibliographies. Be aware that often materials dealing with women in some other discipline have been cataloged together with the other items in that discipline (e.g., women in art will be classed with other works dealing with art).
Handbooks, Encyclopedias, and Dictionaries
Women's Studies Encyclopedia. REF. HQ1115 .W645 Articles are in alphabetical order by topics associated with women's studies. The focus is primarily on issues of interest in the U.S.
A-Z of Women's Sexuality, by Kahn. REF. RG121 .K218 1990
The New Our Bodies, Ourselves: a book by and for women. REF. RA778 .N67 Groundbreaking feminist handbook of female physiology and self care. Contains basic medical, legal and other practical information.
Handbook of American Women's History. REF. HQ1410 .H36 1990 Entries, arranged alphabetically, give concise definitions of terms, short biographies, brief descriptions of organizations, and a basic bibliography.
Statistical Handbook on Women in America. REF. HQ1420 .T34 1996 Graphs, charts, figures (some back to early 1900's) taken mostly from U.S. government sources.
Biographies and Indexes to Biographical Works
Notable American Women. REF. CT3260 .N573 A continuing series of biographies of people no longer living. The focus is on American women but includes those from foreign countries who did most of their work in the U.S.
Who's Who of American Women. REF. CT3260 .W5B Annual volumes providing very brief biographical sketches of American women.
Women in Particular: an Index to American Women, by Herman. REF. HQ1412 .H47 1984 An index to biographies of American women who accomplished something (not women noted only for beauty or social position). This index concentrates on biographies difficult to find elsewhere.
Biography and Genealogy Master Index. REF. CT213 .B5A. A biography index not just for women. The code after the name entry is explained in the end panels of each volume. Now available online, Biography & Genealogy Master Index Comprehensive index of biography dictionaries and encyclopedias. 1 simultaneous user.
Articles in Periodicals
Women's Studies Index. REF. HQ1181 .U5 W65 1989- Alphabetical listing of entries by author, subject, or cross-references.
Women Studies Abstracts. REF. Z7962 .W65 1972- Articles are on women's studies and related subjects. Major articles are accompanied by abstracts. The winter issue contains the annual cumulated index.

Contemporary Women's Issues. 1992+. Indexes global information on women. Articles deal with disciplines such as sociology, psychology, health, education, and human rights.
ERIC. Via FirstSearch. Via EBSCO. 1966+. Journal articles and reports on education topics. Bradley has most of the documents which have the ERIC number prefixed with ED.
Literature Resource Center. Provides full-text access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analysis of authors and their works from every age and literary discipline. It covers thousands of novelists, poets, essayists, journalists and other writers. Searchable fields include: Author Name, Title, Genre, Literary Movement, and Literary Themes. Excellent resource for information on women authors.

Free Internet Resources
American Women: a gateway to Library of Congress resources. An excellent source for digital primary resources from the Library of Congress and also a gateway for research. Includes introductions and use guides for LC and libraries in general.
American women’s history: a research guide. A thorough resource, offering information in 27 subject areas of US women’s history. Provides biographies, bibliographies, primary sources, historical overviews, etc.
Center for Women & Information Technology Various listings of print and online resources relevant to women's studies.
Gender & Development. Provides up-to-date statistics and reports, including those from the United Nations.
Early Illinois Women. Bradley's own Lydia Moss Bradley is listed under "Illinois Women in Public Life."
Feminist Theory Website. Excellent site for research. Includes up-to-date material (primarily bibliographies and biographies) contributed by scholars around the world
Online women’s business center Sponsored by the US Small Business Administration’s Office of Women’s Business Ownership, this is a large, practical source for information about credit, federal contracts, trade opportunities, and business training and assistance.
Women in Politics Maintained by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, this is a starting point for research in Womens Studies. It has keyword searching, indexing to over 200 periodicals, and statistical data.
Women's Studies Database. A comprehensive guide to women's studies issues. Many links witha searchable database.
Women' Studies / Women's Issues Resource Sites. Annotated, selective listing of sites on women's issues, with emphasis on sites of special interest to academic women's studies programs.
Women working, 1870-1930 Based on the massive collections owned by Harvard University libraries, this site provides a huge a mount of primary material about women in various occupations.
WSS Links / Women and Gender Studies. Maintained by the Association of College and Research Libraries (American Library Association), this isn an annotated directory of selective Web sites "intended to help those interested in women's studies research to get a good start."
